Shirts vs. Skins Introduction
In early 2024 I was in a play through Muskegon Civic Theater: Tony ‘n Tina’s Wedding. It’s a hilarious immersive theater piece, meaning the audience is a part of the show. When you attend you can talk to, interact with, and be conscripted by characters in the show, all of whom are part of a comedic wedding.
It was an incredible experience with a phenomenal show run. I had the privilege of being in it alongside my best friend Max, who is one of the funniest people I have ever met. During that experience I reconnected with Tyler, who played the Best Man. We had briefly met at The Comedy Project, in Grand Rapids, where I am a Mainstage Cast Member.
Once the show was over we determined we’d love to keep improvising together, as the play, though scripted, featured a lot of improvisation. We connected with my other good friend Jesse, also a Mainstage Cast Member at TCP, and eventually roped in Ian, a member of the House Team at TCP.
We started out doing regular improv shows but quickly decided we wanted to do our own thing and invent our own form. FictionTown was born: an original long form (improv that runs long, as opposed to gamified short form that’s popular on Whose Line is it Anyway?) In FictionTown we create an entirely new American town and take the audience on a tour of it.
As we perform I’ll post videos of our recorded shows on this feed.
